Culture, Barbero: "Those who decide in the world should learn from history"

Thus said the famous historian and popularizer, on the occasion of his lecture-show 'Anonimo Romano and Cola di Rienzo', hosted and promoted yesterday by the Villa Mondragone Congress and Representation Center in Monte Porzio Catone, the largest of the Tusculan villas owned by the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
"We historians know very well, and we are also quite proud of it, that history is a very entertaining thing. In fact, I don't think that all those who love reading historical novels and history books or listening to history conferences always do so with the very serious intention of learning to better understand the world we live in, many do it just for fun and that's fine. At the same time, however, if those who make decisions in the world learned from history, I think it would be a good thing". This is what Alessandro Barbero, historian and popularizer, said on the occasion of his lecture-show 'Anonimo Romano e Cola di Rienzo', hosted and promoted yesterday by the Villa Mondragone Congress and Representation Center in Monte Porzio Catone, the largest of the Tusculan villas owned by the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
"The aim of the evening - explained the historian - is to make known one of the greatest Italian writers of the Middle Ages who, unfortunately, we do not know his name and this certainly damages him a lot. In Rome, for example, there is no street dedicated to the anonymous Roman but, on the other hand, it cannot be otherwise. Even if we do not know his name, we know that he is a great writer, who writes in a wonderful language".
Broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the University of Rome Tor Vergata and introduced by the professor of Medieval History Sandro Carocci, the lesson saw the participation of the rector of the University Nathan Levialdi Ghiron and the director of the Department of History, Cultural Heritage, Education and Society Lucia Ceci, as well as students of now and then, medievalist enthusiasts, the curious and colleagues of the historian.
